The EKO Acropolis Rally continues its steady path toward becoming an event with a significantly reduced environmental footprint, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and alignment with climate adaptation objectives.
Since 2022, the event has been awarded the FIA’s 3-Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest level of environmental certification granted by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). In 2024, this certification was renewed for another two years, acknowledging the ongoing efforts of the Organizing Committee to improve its environmental performance — with the active contribution of all stakeholders involved in the EKO Acropolis Rally.
Among the key initiatives that supported this achievement was the unprecedented use of green energy in a major sports event in Greece. For the first time in 2024, the main operational needs of the Service Park in Lamia were powered exclusively by electricity generated from renewable energy sources, certified under guarantees of origin in accordance with European and national legislation.
In 2025, the Municipality of Lamia continues this important initiative by once again securing green energy for the Service Park. The use of renewable sources supports clean energy projects in various regions across Greece — including Xiromero, Diavata, Karpenisi, Naousa, Didymoteicho, Kamena Vourla and many more — through cancellation certificates issued by the Hellenic Operator for RES and Guarantees of Origin (DAPEEP).
Motorsport Greece and the Municipality of Lamia are at the forefront of sustainable development, promoting an environmentally responsible approach to organizing international sporting events, and actively contributing to the goals of Greece’s National Climate Law on climate neutrality.
At the same time, the EKO Acropolis Rally places strong emphasis on:
- the rational management of waste,
- reducing the consumption of natural resources (such as water and energy), and
- raising environmental awareness among competitors, spectators, volunteers and staff.
Through these initiatives, the EKO Acropolis Rally is increasingly recognized as one of the leading WRC events worldwide in terms of environmental performance.
